O canal j\u00e1 foi o ber\u00e7o de muitos talentos locais e de fora, pois tem ventos regulares soprando durante todo o ano. Mesmo no inverno, alguns dias s\u00e3o quentes e com bons ventos. A Pra\u00e7a da Vela, no Porto Grande, tem infra-estrutura para a montagem dos barcos e pranchas de windsurf, que saem dali para colorir o canal.
